This is a Caterpillar Hunter in the Ammophila genus, a rather large solo hunting wasp. (a little over an inch and a half long)

I am so glad we don't get anything that size over here - I think I would have to stay indoors - it looks so scary!! Imagine seeing that come towards you at full flying speed *shudders*!!!
